Chennai driver commits suicide, blames police brutality

The cab driver, identified as Rajesh, killed himself by placing his head over a railway track.

A Chennai driver, who committed suicide almost a week back, is said to have blamed the state police for him resorting to this extreme step.

The cab driver, identified as Rajesh, killed himself by placing his head over a railway track.

A video, retrieved from his phone memory backup, showed him holding the policemen responsible for abetting his suicide.

"If I've parked my vehicle in a no parking zone, then fine me for it. How can you misbehave with us? The Chennai Police is the reason for my death. Chief Minister E Palaniswami and Police Commissioner AK Vishwanathan are useless. Last year, one driver died the same way near Tharamani. What action did you take? You say they were transferred. What is the use? The harrasment continues. Let my death be the last one. If you can't take action, quit your job and let people govern themselves," Rajesh said in the video.

Rajesh's belongings were handed over to his family when he was found dead and the case was closed stating he committed suicide due to personal reasons.

His phone memory was reportedly wiped clean at that time.

The video was later retrieved from memory backup.

Two police personnel had apparently spoken to Rajesh in an unlawful manner -- with one of them even damaging his car.

The other incident Rajesh quoted in the video is of last year where a driver immolated self after a few policemen hit him near the OMR signal.
