EPFO data shows 4.8 million additional jobs have been created, says NITI Aayog

A political war of words broke out between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress over a job creation report that pegged the unemployment rate at a 45-year high of 6.1 per cent.

Earlier in the day, several people on Twitter including Congress leaders raised questions over the slower rate of job creation in the country, citing an unreleased survey of the National Sample Survey Office. While Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over slow job creation and called him Hitler, the BJP compared Gandhi to Italian authoritarian ruler Benito Mussolini and criticised his "shortsightedness and myopic understanding of issues".

The NITI Aayog later clarified that the job data was just a draft and is not verified. NITI Aayog V-C said that the data will be released when it is ready.
